Please describe the activities (extracurricular, community, hobbies) in which you have participated. How long you have been involved with each, any awards or honors. Highlight any experiences with diversity groups (No more than one page.)
I have participated in
sports activities since I was 6 years old. It began with swimming; then,
jogging, dancing and basketball. At first, I did not know how to swim. My dad
took me to join swimming class with my elder sister. We had learned swimming
for years. I took parts in swimming competition every year from the age of 7
until 12 years old. I got a lot of swimming awards from bronze to silver and
gold medals. Although it was not the competition in world Olympic, at least it
was the regional one in my country. Later on, I found myself interested in
dancing. I had formed a group with my friends taking part in dancing performance
in front of more than 200 audiences which was the first time that I was in front
of so many people. I still remembered how excited I was at that time. Recently,
I found a group of friends playing basketball together. I am just a beginner in
basketball and still keep practicing when I have time.
Experiencing with sports gives me the opportunity to encounter with diversity groups. I enjoy making friend with many people regardless of race, ethnicity, age, national origin, sexual orientation, cultural identity. For instance, during my swimming competition I found myself competing with many nationalities. In the end we were friends exchanging conversation with so much fun. I studied in a girl middle school where there were no boys in school. My sports activities provided me chances to make friends with boys. My basketball team has both boys and girls.
I have
learned a lot from my sports activity which is not only sports, but also the
art of communication, team work, and understanding.
